Rep. Monica De La Cruz, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 15th district since 2023, recently shared several updates on her legislative efforts via social media. These posts highlight her commitment to housing policy, agricultural pest control, and economic relief for farmers.
On June 1, 2025, Rep. De La Cruz acknowledged National Home Ownership Month by expressing her dedication to housing policies that facilitate homeownership. As Vice Chair of the Financial Services Committee’s Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, she emphasized her focus on making homeownership more accessible for families in South Texas and nationwide. “June is National Home Ownership Month! As the Vice Chair of the @FinancialCmte Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, I’m committed to fighting for common-sense policies that make homeownership more attainable for families in South Texas and across the nation.”
The following day, June 2, 2025, Rep. De La Cruz raised concerns about the potential threat posed by New World Screwworms migrating from Mexico into Texas. She advocated for reviving a local facility dedicated to eradicating this pest due to its proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border: “If not taken care of soon, the threat of New World Screwworm moving north from Mexico could devastate Texas livestock and farms.”
Later on June 2nd, she announced an extension of critical aid for South Texas farmers and producers affected by economic challenges. However, she urged eligible parties to apply promptly as it was their last week to do so: “Attention South Texas Farmers and Producers! I am excited to announce that the critical aid I secured has been extended… but this is your last week to apply!”
Monica De La Cruz was born in Brownsville in 1974 and currently resides in McAllen. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
