On June 6, 2025, Rep. De La Cruz announced her leadership in a legislative effort to collaborate with the USDA to address the growing threat of the New World Screwworm in Texas. She emphasized the importance of preparedness to prevent severe impacts on livestock and wildlife. “While the threat posed by the New World Screwworm grows, I’m leading legislation to work with the USDA to ensure Texas is prepared to eradicate the threat before our livestock and wildlife are severely impacted.”
Later that day, she informed her constituents about an upcoming recreational opportunity: Fish for Free Day on June 7th. This event allows Texans to fish without licenses or endorsements, encouraging them to enjoy outdoor activities across the state. “Fish for Free Day is this Saturday, June 7th! Texans can fish recreationally without licenses or endorsements, just grab your gear and enjoy the great outdoors that Texas has to offer!”
In another update on June 6, Rep. De La Cruz highlighted her office’s recent meeting with Premont’s new mayor, Idolina “Dolly” Perez. Monica De La Cruz was born in Brownsville, Texas in 1974 and currently resides in McAllen. She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a BBS degree.
