Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz visited Wilson County and Karnes County this week to meet with local officials and recognize community members for their achievements.
In Wilson County, De La Cruz held a roundtable with officials from several cities, including La Vernia, Poth, Stockdale, and Floresville. During the meeting, she discussed her recent work in Congress, including the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill. She also spoke about securing a $750 million investment from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a new sterile fly production facility in her district. The facility aims to protect Texas agriculture from threats such as the New World Screwworm.
After the roundtable, De La Cruz joined community members in honoring Stacy Cameron and Kaitlyn Tieken of Sisters Boutique & Gifts, Inc. in Floresville. Their business was named San Antonio SBA Family-Owned Business of the Year earlier this year. De La Cruz presented them with an official Congressional Record to acknowledge their 35 years in business and dedication to the community.
In Karnes County, De La Cruz hosted another roundtable with officials from Karnes County, Karnes City, and Kenedy. She provided updates on her congressional work and discussed more than $1.2 million in funding she secured for the county. This includes money for removing the Otilla Dam on the San Antonio River and upgrading radio communications for the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office.
De La Cruz also honored Henry Kolinek Junior’s 100th birthday by presenting him with his official Congressional Record. In July, she recognized his milestone birthday and life of service with a speech on the House floor.
Monica De La Cruz is currently serving as U.S. Representative for Texas’ 15th district after replacing Vicente Gonzalez in 2023. She won elections against Michelle Vallejo in both 2022 and 2024.
