Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz of Texas’ 15th district announced that $1.75 million in federal funding has been secured for water infrastructure projects in South Texas. The funds were included as part of the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act.
In a statement following her vote to pass the legislation, De La Cruz said: “The passage of this legislation delivered wins for South Texas, securing $1.75 million to improve water infrastructure while fueling American energy and protecting public safety. As we continue our work to fund the government responsibly, I am committed to prioritizing the water needs of South Texas, bringing home taxpayer dollars, and continuing to invest in our communities.”
The appropriations act supports law enforcement efforts against illicit drug distribution, expands domestic energy resources, and invests in management of public lands.
De La Cruz obtained specific project funding including $750,000 for Edinburg’s Water Treatment Plant Project and $1 million for McAllen’s Remote Groundwater Well.
Monica De La Cruz is currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas’ 15th congressional district after replacing Vicente Gonzalez in 2023. She won election victories over Michelle Vallejo in both 2022 (53.3% to 44.8%) and 2024 (57.1% to 42.9%).
