The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the HUD Transparency Act, a bill sponsored by Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15). The legislation requires the Inspector General at the Department of Housing and Urban Development to testify annually before Congress regarding efforts to identify and prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.

Congresswoman De La Cruz addressed her colleagues on the House floor in support of the measure. She stated, “Today, the House took a critical step toward rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse to ensure HUD’s housing programs are serving all Americans. Improving accountability and protecting American taxpayer dollars will always be a top priority. I look forward to Senate passage and sending this bill to President Trump’s desk for his signature.”

De La Cruz currently represents Texas’ 15th district in Congress, having taken office in 2023 after succeeding Vicente Gonzalez. In recent elections, she defeated Michelle Vallejo in both 2022 and 2024 general elections.
