U.S. Representative Monica De La Cruz, who represents Texas’ 15th district, used her social media platform to comment on recent political developments, including a government shutdown and an international peace agreement. De La Cruz, who succeeded Vicente Gonzalez in 2023, posted several statements between October 8 and October 9, 2025.
On October 8, De La Cruz addressed the ongoing government shutdown, attributing responsibility to Senate Democrats. She wrote, “Americans are paying the price for the Democrat shutdown. Flight delays, cancellations, and chaos, all because Senate Democrats refuse to do their jobs and pass the clean CR.”
The following day, she expressed gratitude for a peace deal and the release of hostages, crediting former President Trump for the achievement. In her October 9 post, De La Cruz stated, “Thank you, President Trump, for securing this historic peace deal and the release of all the hostages. This is the moment we have been praying for! ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.’ – Matthew 5:9”
Later that same day, De La Cruz reiterated her concerns about the impact of the government shutdown on Americans. She commented, “A government shutdown helps no one, but Democrats appear content to let Americans suffer while they play politics.”
De La Cruz has held her congressional seat since defeating Michelle Vallejo in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections. In 2024, she won with 57.1% of the vote compared to Vallejo’s 42.9%, and in 2022 she secured victory with 53.3% of the vote over Vallejo’s 44.8%. She currently serves as the representative for Texas’ 15th district.
