U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Progreso Port of Entry apprehended a man wanted in Dallas on a felony warrant for sexual assault. The incident occurred over the weekend when officers encountered Daniel Galvan, 40, a U.S. citizen, as he attempted to cross northbound at the Progreso International Bridge.
According to Port Director Michael Martinez, “Our frontline officers maintained strict vigilance and detained and apprehended a northbound traveler wanted on a significant outstanding felony warrant for a violent sexual offense.”
CBP officers referred Galvan for secondary inspection on December 14. During this process, biometric verification using law enforcement databases confirmed that Galvan had an outstanding felony warrant for sexual assault issued by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Officers then transported him to a local jail pending adjudication of the warrant.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) serves as an automated database that enables information sharing among law enforcement agencies regarding outstanding warrants and other offenses. CBP has previously used NCIC data to arrest individuals wanted for various crimes such as homicide, robbery, narcotics distribution, and fraud.
Criminal charges remain allegations until proven in court; defendants are presumed innocent unless found guilty.
