Rep. Monica De La Cruz, U.S. Congresswoman representing Texas’ 15th district, has posted a series of updates on her official social media account addressing the ongoing government shutdown, upcoming opportunities for constituents, and legislative efforts to honor military service.
On November 5, 2025, De La Cruz acknowledged the historic length of the federal government shutdown by stating, “We’ve reached Day 36 of the government shutdown, the longest in our nation’s history. Americans deserve better. It’s time to reopen the government and get back to work.”
The following day, she reminded constituents about an approaching deadline for applications to U.S. Service Academies: “The last day to apply is this Friday, November 7th! Don’t miss out on an incredible opportunity to represent the 15th Congressional District of Texas in four of the five U.S. Service Academies.
An appointment to the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force” (posted November 6, 2025).
Later that same day, De La Cruz highlighted her legislative initiative aimed at recognizing local military heroism: “We are forever grateful for the bravery, sacrifice, and courage of all who have served our nation.
I’m proud to have introduced the Sergeant Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez Congressional Gold Medal Act, recognizing the heroism of South Texas’s own, who gave his life to protect others.” (posted November 6, 2025).
De La Cruz has represented Texas’ 15th congressional district since replacing Vicente Gonzalez in 2023. She secured her seat after defeating Michelle Vallejo in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections.
