De La Cruz assumed office after defeating Michelle Vallejo in two consecutive general elections—first in 2022 and again in 2024—before replacing Vicente Gonzalez as representative for Texas’ 15th district in January 2023. In the most recent contest held in November 2024, she secured victory with approximately 57% of the vote.
