Rep. Monica De La Cruz, who represents Texas’ 15th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media account warning about the effects of a potential government shutdown and attributing the situation to actions by Democratic lawmakers.
On September 30, 2025, De La Cruz wrote, “THIS is what’s at stake if Democrats shut the government down. Political games have serious impacts on border communities like mine. Stop the games. Keep the government open.”
Later that day, she posted another message stating, “At midnight, the government will shut down due to the Democrats’ political games. Watch my message on what this will mean for Texans across our communities. https://t.co/UGh8s76FSr” The post referred to a video message addressing the implications for her constituents.
On October 1, 2025, De La Cruz provided an update during the ongoing shutdown: “During the ongoing shutdown, my offices remain open and ready to assist you with any federal agency. If you need support or help navigating the ongoing lapse in government funding, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my team. Find more information here: https://t.co/tXWQv9umw4”
De La Cruz has represented Texas’ 15th district since 2023 after succeeding Vicente Gonzalez. She secured her seat in Congress by defeating Michelle Vallejo in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections.
