On February 1st, Rep. De La Cruz marked National Freedom Day by reflecting on the significance of the day in American history. She stated, “National Freedom Day commemorates the signing of the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery. On February 1st, we celebrate the freedoms that come with being an American and should never take them for granted.”
Later that day, she welcomed home a returned hostage named Keith while emphasizing her commitment to ensuring the safe return of hostages from abroad. She expressed her determination by stating: “Welcome home, Keith! We will not stop until every American & Israeli hostage has returned home safely.”
