Rep. Monica De La Cruz, serving Texas’ 15th district in the U.S. Congress since 2023, has been active on social media discussing her legislative initiatives and community engagements. Born in Brownsville, Texas, and a resident of McAllen, De La Cruz holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
On May 14, 2025, Rep. De La Cruz expressed her commitment to affordable housing in South Texas through a tweet, stating she is “proud to represent South Texas” where such housing is essential. She highlighted her work on the Financial Committee towards bipartisan solutions and mentioned her bill, the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act, which successfully passed out of the House.
Later that day, she introduced one of her spring interns via another tweet. The intern, Zach from McAllen and a student at Texas A&M pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics, was praised for his leadership skills honed through participation in Texas A&M’s Corps of Cadets.
In a subsequent post on May 15, 2025, Rep. De La Cruz shared about an event attended by her staff hosted by @bgcmcallen to honor Ximena Villarreal as this year’s Texas Youth of the Year. She emphasized supporting young leaders as one of her priorities and expressed pride in seeing youth from South Texas being recognized.
Monica De La Cruz has served in Congress since replacing Vicente Gonzalez in 2023.
