Rep. Monica De La Cruz, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 15th district, has been actively engaging with her constituents through various community events and legislative initiatives. Her recent activities reflect her commitment to supporting local businesses, infrastructure development, and agricultural concerns in South Texas.
On June 7, 2025, Rep. De La Cruz announced via Twitter that her office participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for bb.q Chicken, a new family eatery owned by Norma and Omar Guevara in McAllen. She stated: “In McAllen, my office joined Norma and Omar Guevara for the ribbon cutting of their new family eatery, bb.q Chicken. This exciting addition brings a fresh dining option to the community, and we’re proud to support local businesses in South Texas.”
The following day, on June 8, 2025, she shared another tweet about attending the groundbreaking event for Kenedy’s new water transmission line project. Rep. De La Cruz expressed pride in participating in this significant milestone aimed at enhancing the community’s water supply infrastructure: “Kenedy celebrated a major milestone with the groundbreaking of its new water transmission line project. My office was proud to attend this important event, which marks a big step forward in securing a safe and reliable drinking water supply for the community.”
On June 9, 2025, Rep. De La Cruz addressed agricultural concerns regarding screwworms moving north from Mexico into South Texas. In response to these threats faced by farmers and ranchers, she introduced legislation titled the New World Screwworm Preparedness Act to safeguard livestock and bolster economic security: “The threat of screwworms is moving north from Mexico, and South Texas farmers and ranchers are rightfully concerned. I introduced the New World Screwworm Preparedness Act to ensure we have an action plan to protect our livestock and economy.”
Monica De La Cruz was born in Brownsville, Texas in 1974 and currently resides in McAllen. She holds a Bachelor of Business Studies degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
