Rep. Ryan Guillen, a Texas state legislator, has recently shared several legislative initiatives he is championing via social media. His efforts focus on healthcare accessibility for those with terminal illnesses, cultural recognition within the state, and improvements in veterans’ benefits.
On June 2, 2025, Rep. Guillen highlighted “Today is Lou Gehrig’s Day—a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by those living with ALS.” He expressed pride in authoring HB 2516, a bill designed to ensure Texans under 65 who have conditions like ALS can access Medicare supplement plans. This initiative aims to provide crucial coverage for individuals dealing with terminal illnesses.
Two days later, on June 4, 2025, Rep. Guillen announced his involvement in “Honored to author HCR 70,” which re-designates Jim Hogg County as the Vaquero Capital of Texas through 2035. This designation acknowledges the county’s significant contributions to ranching and its rich vaquero traditions that reflect values integral to South Texas.
On the same day, he addressed veterans’ issues by promoting HB 2193 through a tweet stating “Veterans should never have to jump through hoops to access the benefits they’ve earned.” The bill directs the Texas Veterans Commission to study ways to improve veterans’ benefits delivery statewide by enhancing accessibility and efficiency of benefit advisors.
These legislative actions are part of ongoing efforts by Rep. Guillen and others in addressing diverse needs across different communities in Texas.
