Rep. Ryan Guillen, chair of the House Agriculture & Livestock Committee and representative for Texas’s 31st House district, has used his social media platform to highlight recent legislative efforts and policy priorities related to agriculture and small businesses.
On October 8, 2025, Guillen posted about a committee hearing in El Campo focused on agricultural threats: “As chair of the House Ag & Livestock Committee, we held a hearing in El Campo to address the threat of the Rice Delphacid and continued discussions on the New World Screwworm. Both pose serious threats to our farms, ranches, economy, and rural communities. We’ll keep working”.
Later that day, Guillen addressed concerns about taxation on family-owned enterprises. In a tweet dated October 8, 2025, he stated: “Families working to pass down farms or small businesses shouldn’t face extra taxes in their hardest moments. Proposition 8 protects Texans by ensuring the state will never impose estate or inheritance taxes. #txlege #Prop8 #12DaysTilEarlyVoting”.
On October 9, 2025, Guillen advocated for further tax relief measures aimed at supporting local entrepreneurship: “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. Proposition 9 supports them by exempting up to $125,000 of tangible property used for income production from taxation—helping Texas entrepreneurs grow and create jobs. #txlege #Prop9 #11DaysTilEarlyVoting”.
Guillen is a Republican who has served in the Texas State House since his election in 2003 after succeeding Judy Hawley as representative for District 31.
