Early voter turnout for the Democratic primary in Starr County this year is set to exceed that of 2016.
Data acquired from the office of the Texas Secretary of State shows that 18% of registered voters in Starr County - or 6,049 people - came out to vote last week during the first five days of voting. This is more than half the early voter turnout for the 2016 primaries in the county, in which 30% of registered voters - or 9,128 people - cast their ballots early.
Moreover, 22 people voted early for the Republican Primary this year, which is also an increase from 2016, as there was no Republican Primary in the county then. Currently, there is only one polling site available for the Republican Primary, as opposed to four sites for the Democratic Primary. This can be found at the county courthouse.
In total, 41.9% of registered voters in Starr County turned out for the primaries in 2016.
