PHARR-SAN JUAN-ALAMO ISD: PSJA ISD to offer learning options for 2020-2021 school year

Learning

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD issued the following announcement.

District plans to continue offering quality education to students

Keeping the health and safety of students and staff at the forefront, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) announced that it will be offering three learning options during the 2020-2021 school year.

“Whether families choose to join us physically or virtually, our mission of educating our students continues as we transition to this new frontier in public education, and the health and safety of our students, teachers and staff remain our top priority,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo.

The following are the three learning options available for parents to choose from following state and CDC recommendations:

Option 1:  In-Person Instructional Model - Learning occurs in the classroom, face-to-face, with teachers and students on campus.

Option 2:  Hybrid Instructional Model - Learning happens with a combination of face-to-face instruction and virtual learning.

Option 3:  Virtual Learning Instructional Model - 100% daily on-line at-home learning.

As the district plans for the 2020-2021 school year, parents are asked to identify the option that best fits their needs and desires. While the district will prioritize selection, officials want to remind parents and students that updates to these options might be made if necessary, based on health official and state recommendations.

For those families selecting in-person (Option 1) or hybrid (Option 2), we will be following social distancing guidelines, cleaning and disinfecting protocols, temperature checks and the usage of face masks at all times.

"It is very important that we remember that with all COVID-19 plans, details may be subject to change pending the state of our local community health and new guidance issued by local, state and national authorities as we approach the first day of school," Dr. Arredondo said. "We still have a lot of work to do, but our relentless work ethic, sense of urgency and commitment to work with our community will continue to ensure our students' success."

PSJA ISD's nationally recognized programs and initiatives the district is known for such as its dynamic Early College program and Dual Language work, to name a few, will continue with the same rigor and innovative practices expected for all students.

As parents choose the best option for their child, they can also request a school-issued computer. All PSJA students will be able to request this device if needed. School buses recently retrofitted with WiFi capabilities will also be parked in strategic locations to provide this service to students.

Parents of registered students are asked to select their option by August 1, 2020 at www.psjaisd.us/options. More information will be shared as it becomes available. Registration for the 2020-2021 school year remains open. To register, parents can visit www.psjaisd.us/register.
