Cost of college went up for all students at South Texas College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.5 percent for 2018-19 at South Texas College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $4,080 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $60 more than the $4,020 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 88.2 percent more than residents this year, or $7,680. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 0.8 percent from $7,620 in 2017-18.

100 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents.

Data shows 91 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,732 students received grants or scholarships totaling $14.4 million and 114 students took out student loans totaling more than $219,479.

Including all undergraduates (31,949), 14,171 students used grants or scholarships totaling $58.9 million.
