There were 301 students enrolled in Excellence in Leadership Academy in the 2021-22 school year, a slight increase compared to the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 50.8% of them were boys, and 49.2% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 99.3% of the Excellence in Leadership Academy total enrollment.

Excellence in Leadership Academy roughly covers schools within Hidalgo County with its main office in Mission.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
