Progreso ISD schools Education: 1,387 Hispanic students were enrolled in schools in 2021-22 school year

There were 1,387 Hispanic students enrolled in Progreso ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 9.2% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Progreso ISD schools welcomed 1,393 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, Hispanic students comprised 99.6% of the student body to be the most represented ethnicity in the district.

Progreso ISD roughly covers schools within Hidalgo County and has a main office in Progreso.

Among the four schools in Progreso ISD schools, Progreso High School recorded the highest enrollment of Hispanic students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of 462 students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
