Horizon Montessori Public Schools District Education: 71 African American students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 71 African American students enrolled in Horizon Montessori Public Schools District in the 2022-23 school year, 9.2% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Horizon Montessori Public Schools District welcomed 1,469 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 4.8% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Horizon Montessori Public Schools District roughly covers schools within Hidalgo County and has a main office in Weslaco.

Among the four schools in Horizon Montessori Public Schools District, Horizon Montessori - Pearland recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 69 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
