There were 342 white students enrolled in Edinburg CISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 8.6% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Edinburg CISD schools welcomed 33,911 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, white students comprised 1% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Edinburg CISD roughly covers schools within Hidalgo County and has a main office in Edinburg.

Among the 43 schools in Edinburg CISD schools, Robert R. Vela High School recorded the highest enrollment of white students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 47 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
