Steve Cortes interviews Alberto and Kathy Olivares | Cortes Investigates
Alberto Olivares, a former Border Patrol agent, responded to Steve Cortes' question regarding the perception that Democrats believe Border Patrol agents are racist. He said that the agency is "probably close to 50% Hispanic," calling that narrative "false." The interview was conducted by Steve Cortes on March 31.
"They need to look at the statistics and what makes up the force because I think Border Patrol is probably close to 50% Hispanic," said Olivares. "So that narrative is false. Just a quick FOIA for Border Patrol would answer that question. It's heavily Hispanic and there's a little bit of everything, but that's just a false narrative."
According to Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers and host of Cortes Investigates, he interviewed Kathy and Albert Olivares, a married couple with over 50 years of combined experience in law enforcement. Both have built careers in the U.S. Border Patrol. They met at a supervisor school and later reconnected while on assignment.
Cortes asked Albert about some Democrat politicians in Washington, D.C., and media personalities who project a narrative that Border Patrol is racist or anti-Latino. During the interview, Olivares pushed back against these claims, saying they are politically motivated and do not reflect the agency’s diverse workforce.
He criticized politicians and media figures for misrepresenting the agency, stating their claims do not align with the reality experienced by those working on the ground.
Kathy Olivares discussed the political shift in Starr County, historically a Democratic stronghold where Donald Trump won despite its heavily Hispanic population. She attributed this change to dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party’s handling of issues like immigration, law enforcement, and social policies. She noted that many residents hold conservative values regarding faith and family and are increasingly rejecting progressive policies that do not align with their beliefs. Kathy said she believes both younger and older generations have seen a historical lack of assistance in their area and have not received desired results.
