Enrollment at Edcouch-Elsa ISD schools increased by 5.5% compared to previous school year

There were 4,366 students enrolled in Edcouch-Elsa ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 5.5% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.3% of them were boys, and 49.7% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 99.7% of the Edcouch-Elsa ISD total enrollment.

Edcouch-Elsa ISD roughly covers schools within Hidalgo County with its main office in Edcouch.

Among the nine schools in Edcouch-Elsa ISD, Edcouch-Elsa High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,345 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
