There were 28 white students enrolled in Roma ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 27.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Roma ISD schools welcomed 5,977 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, white students comprised 0.5% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Roma ISD roughly covers schools within Starr County and has a main office in Roma.

Among the 10 schools in Roma ISD schools, Roel A. & Celia R. Saenz Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of white students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of six students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
