Valley View Early College Campus issued the following announcement.
1 INSTRUCTIONAL DAY LEFT BEFORE TESTING
Dear Parents:
Beginning February 24, 2020, your child will be taking part in the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). TELPAS is an assessment program for students in Texas public schools. The state annually assesses the English language proficiency of students who have been identified as English learners (ELs) in four language domains – listening, speaking, reading, and writing. TELPAS evaluates the progress that each EL makes in becoming proficient in the use of academic English. English learners who have academic language proficiency understand the English language that makes the learning of academic concepts and skills fully accessible.
It is important for everyone to understand that your child’s TELPAS results are an indicator of student success. ELs must progress each year in their English proficiency levels until they are proficient and are able to take part in an all-English curriculum without English as a Second Language (ESL) support. Please discuss with your child the importance of this assessment and ensure that your child comes prepared to school to take part in this evaluation.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the TELPAS assessment, please feel free to contact our school office at (956) 340-1000.
