CITY OF MISSOURI: Council Connection for Aug. 3

Missouri

City of Missouri issued the following announcement.

At their Monday, Aug. 3 Virtual Regular Meeting, Councilmembers held a public hearing to receive comments for or against an ordinance amending Chapter 82, Subdivisions, of the Missouri City Code, establishing regulations for the naming of new streets; authorized the replacement and upgrade of the lease for a citywide security camera solution and associated hardware; and ratified the placement of K-9 Officer Samu with a nonprofit animal rescue organization. Here is a rundown of all Council actions at the meeting:

Staff Reports:

  • Staff presented Council with the certified tax rolls.
  • City Manager Odis Jones presented Council a report on conducting an internal controls audit.
Consent Agenda:

  • Approved the minutes of the special City Council meeting of July 16, 2020, and the special and regular City Council meetings of July 20, 2020.
  • Approved an ordinance amending Chapter 16, Naming of City Property and City Programs; of the Missouri City Code; reducing the signature threshold to change the existing street names.
  • Accepted the quarterly investment report for the quarter ending on June 30, 2020.
  • Authorized the City Manager to execute a contract for the Emergency Operations Center server room HVAC replacement.
  • Approved a correction deed correcting an omission contained in a deed, previously approved and accepted by City Council on Dec. 16, 2019, transferring certain dedicated and gifted parkland to the City of Missouri City, Texas, from Herrin Ranch Development II Inc., on behalf of the Riverstone “Phase II” Subdivision.  
Public Hearings:

  • Held a public hearing to receive comments for or against an ordinance amending Chapter 82, Subdivisions, of the Missouri City Code, establishing regulations for the naming of new streets. Council voted to approve an ordinance on the first of two readings, prohibiting new street names to be named after possible offensive individuals and events.
Authorizations:

  • Authorized the replacement and upgrade of the lease for a citywide security camera solution and associated hardware.
  • Authorized the use of CARES Act funds on the submitted project list.
Ordinances:

  • Approved an ordinance of the City of Missouri City, Texas, providing for a general election to be held on Nov. 3, 2020, for the purpose of electing a mayor and two at-large councilmembers; providing for a special election to be held on Nov. 3, 2020, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the city of Missouri city a proposition providing for or against the adoption of the fire fighters’ and police officers’ civil service law.
Resolutions:

  • Approved a resolution authorizing City Manager Jones to open and maintain a city account or accounts with Wells Fargo Bank, National Association.
  • Approved a resolution authorizing City Manager Jones to maintain account with Wells Fargo Bank, National Association for the City of Missouri City Nonprofit Trust for the payment of certain employee benefits and containing other provisions relating to the subject.
  • Approved a resolution ratifying the placement of retired K-9 Officer Samu with a nonprofit animal rescue organization.

Once a resident signs up for public comments, he or she will be contacted by the City Secretary’s office with further details on how to login for the meeting. Residents are advised not to share the Zoom invitation with others, as only those who are signed up for public comments, presenters, staff and council will be allowed access to the meeting.
