Cost of college went up for all students at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

In-state tuition and fees rose 3 percent for 2018-19 at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $7,813 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $226 more than the $7,587 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 127.5 percent more than residents this year, or $17,773. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 1.3 percent from $17,547 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. And about 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 93 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,713 students received grants or scholarships totaling $34.4 million and 940 students took out student loans totaling more than $3.6 million.

Including all undergraduates (28,644), 18,206 students used grants or scholarships totaling $140.6 million, and 8,927 students took out $45 million in federal student loans.
