City of Missouri issued the following announcement.
MCTX City Manager Odis Jones continues to settle into his new role as the 8th CEO of Missouri City. One of the key initiatives Jones wants to succeed in is transparency from City Hall to all corners of the community. Focus on the Future will serve as his update to residents, businesses, and stakeholders to keep everybody informed.
One early result in his time in MCTX is the proposed lowering of the property tax rate, which would be the first adopted effective tax rate since 2013. Residents are encouraged to attend the virtual public hearing for the proposed rate at the Sept. 21 Virtual Council Meeting live on MCTV.
Several other key objectives in the first few weeks of Jones’ leadership include, but are not limited to:
- Proposing an internal audit to Council at the Aug. 3, Virtual Regular meeting. View the discussion here. This audit will help ensure financial transparency, so residents know exactly where their tax dollars are going.
- Enhancing and branding the City’s economic development strategy with a center City focus.
- Implementing a Lean Six Sigma/Data Driven philosophy within the organization. This initiative will improve operational productivity, eliminate organizational waste and optimize public resources.
- Establishing a Compliance & Ethics Office to ensure organizational integrity.
“I want everybody to know how excited I am to work for the wonderful city of Missouri City,” said City Manager Jones. “There are a lot of exciting things on the horizon, and I hope this weekly update provides the information needed to see where our City is going.”
As the City looks forward to a bright future, be sure to tune in for Mayor Yolanda Ford’s virtual State of the City address next week on the City’s official outlets. For details, visit www.missouricitytx.gov.
