Hidalgo County's Community Service Agency (CSA) is accepting application for its Mortgage and Rent Relief Program.
Laura Matamoros, economic development director for Hidalgo County, said in a video on Twitter.
Residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic who need help paying their rent or mortgage are eligible to apply for relief through the program.
"As funds became available from federal government, [I was asked] to put together a program to be able to assist families who are affected either through loss of wages, loss of jobs in some cases, and were really struggling to pay the rent and keep up with their mortgage payments," CSA Executive Director Jaime Longoria said in the video. "We knew that evictions were at a standstill. We knew that foreclosures were at a standstill, thanks to the governor's order. But we knew once those were lifted, families were going to be in a very precarious situation."
The county has set aside $7 million for this program, according to Longoria.
Families financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic are eligible to apply. They must live in the rural areas of the county or in Granjeno or Sullivan City to be eligible for funds. Their income must also be below the 200% federal poverty line.
Families can apply online for the program. They'll need a valid picture ID for the applicant; birth certificates or valid IDsfor all other family members; proof that the family was affected by the coronavirus pandemic; information of the households income from the last 30 days; a rant or mortgage agreement with past-due expenses identified; and the landlord's or mortgage company's W-9.
More information on the program can be found online.
