HIDALGO ISD: Update For the 2020-21 School Year

Educ

Hidalgo ISD issued the following announcement.

Dear Hidalgo ISD Parents and Guardians,

Throughout the summer, the Board of Trustees and Administration of Hidalgo ISD has closely monitored the situation surrounding COVID-19. During the planning process for the 2020-21 school year, Hidalgo ISD has kept the safety of our students, staff and families at the forefront while considering In-person or Online Instruction. As the rapid changing virus has caused an outbreak in Hidalgo County and the surrounding areas, Hidalgo ISD will be making a recommendation in the next board meeting to the Board of Trustees to delay the start of the school year until August 31, 2020. In addition to the delay, the District will be recommending to the school board the Texas Education Agency (TEA) plan for an 8-week back-to-school transition period. This will allow for Hidalgo ISD to temporarily limit in-person instruction for 8 weeks and offer 100% online instruction for students.

We understand you likely have many questions, regarding technology distribution, extracurriculars, scheduling, and more. We expect UIL to provide guidance for in-person athletics and fine arts activities. The District will share more information with you as soon as it becomes available.

In addition, we realize the challenge that this 8-week change brings for many of our families, and we know so many of our students and staff were looking forward to returning to campus for the start of a new school year. Hidalgo ISD thanks everyone for their continued understanding and support as we work to keep our students, staff, and community safe.
