Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD issued the following announcement.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD recently completed playground improvements at Edith & Ethel Carman Elementary in San Juan and Santos Livas Elementary in Alamo.
The district first held groundbreaking ceremonies for the improvement projects on November 18, 2019. Both projects were an investment of over $1.9 million.
While the 2020-2021 school year may kickoff 100% online due to the pandemic, according to PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo the district’s Operations Division has been working hard to ensure facility improvements continue as planned for students and staff to enjoy when it’s safe to return.
"We want to make sure our students and staff have access to the best facilities possible," said Dr. Arredondo. "These playground improvements will allow our students and community to have a safe and beautiful place to get their daily exercise. We want to thank the support of our school board and partner municipalities for seeing this need and making these projects possible."
To provide the best recreational facilities for its students, PSJA ISD has invested in improving 1-2 playgrounds each year. The improvements include exercise stations, lighted walking trails, restroom facilities, canopies, basketball courts and playscape renovations, to name a few.
"The health and safety of our community is more important than ever and these improvements create a larger footprint of state of the art facilities for our students and families to use," said Chief of Operations Nick Martinez.
