CITY OF MISSOURI: “Show Me City” Rolling Out Its 2020 Citizen Survey

Survey

City of Missouri issued the following announcement on Feb. 11.

Missouri City will be conducting its 2020 Citizen Survey through the end of March and it will again be administered through the nationally-recognized ETC Institute via mail, Internet, and phone.

ETC will mail the survey and a City-approved project description letter to a random sample of households. Residents will be provided two convenient opportunities to respond: an online link that will be included in the letter and a postage-paid return envelope.

About seven to 10 days after the surveys are mailed, ETC will follow-up with households that received them; the firm’s goal is to achieve a minimum of 400 completed surveys. A sample of 400 will provide the City results that have a margin of error of +/-4.9 percent at the 95 percent level of confidence. ETC consultants will monitor the distribution of the sample to ensure that it reflects the demographic composition of the City with regard to age, geographic dispersion, gender, race, ethnicity and other factors.

The survey will compile resident feedback on a wide variety of City programs and services and gather respondent information. “This is a biennial initiative that helps staff identify what we are doing well, identify opportunities for improvements and identify business plan and budget priorities,” said City Manager Anthony J. Snipes. “We value citizen engagement and have utilized previous survey results to make important long-range planning and investment decisions. Our credo is ‘Together, we excel’, and that extends to our vast network of engaged citizens.”

Residents ages 18 and older will have the chance to rank the City’s quality of life, including residential and commercial development, public safety, mobility, disaster management response, flood control, animal services, financial management and recreational programs.

Citizen input is essential to the process and will be vital for future planning and development purposes. “We value our citizen partnerships and look forward to the feedback residents will share with us,” Snipes said. “The residents’ overall satisfaction with the City and their opinions on customer service and programs are critical to our ongoing progress.”

Survey findings will be submitted to the City in April and presented to the public in May.

Established in 1982, ETC Institute is a Kansas-based company that has administered surveys in hundreds of cities and counties nationwide. The firm is a national leader in market research for local governments and, since its founding, has completed research projects for clients in 49 states, including surveys, focus groups and stakeholder meetings.

Findings from the MCTX 2018 Community Survey that was also conducted by ETC Institute, may be found on the City website here: http://bit.ly/2OKwyOX. That analysis of 413 households showed that residents have a positive overall perception of the “Show Me City,” and that satisfaction with City services is much higher in Missouri City than in other communities:

  • Approximately 86 percent of the residents surveyed indicated MCTX is an ‘excellent’ or ‘good’ place to live, which is significantly higher than the national average of 70 percent;
  • Approximately 80 percent of those surveyed indicated that Missouri City is an ‘excellent’ or ‘good’ place to raise children, which is also significantly higher than the national average of 68 percent; and
  • Satisfaction with the overall quality of City services rated 14 percent above the Texas average and 12 percent above the U.S. average.
“We are excited to see these high marks in the perception of City services and our image,” said City Manager Snipes. “We have made great strides since the 2018 survey to improve our standing both on a regional and national stage, and it is rewarding to see our collaborative efforts result in positive citizen feedback.”
