City of Missouri issued the following announcement on April 07.
The “Show Me City” is once again being commended for its safe streets, earning the No. 34 rank in a list of 154 Texas cities rated by Alarms.org, the official site of the National Council for Home Safety and Security—an association of licensed alarm companies, installers, contractors and trade groups.
Alarms.org completed its 2020 “Safest Cities in Texas” rankings by reviewing data from the FBI’s latest “Uniform Crime Report” statistics.
Missouri City is one of three Fort Bend County municipalities to be featured by the online security resource: Fulshear came in at No. 2 on the list; and Sugar Land was ranked No. 53.
As part of its commitment to assuring the City’s operations are in alignment with benchmark cities, MCTX officials also focused on the rankings of: Friendswood, which ranked No. 15; Pearland, which ranked No. 48; Rosenberg, which ranked No. 50; Richmond, which ranked No. 61; and South Houston, which ranked No. 103.

Additionally, the Missouri City Police Department was once again instrumental in the City being ranked among the top 50 safest cities in Texas by SafeWise, a security system resource website. The “Show Me City” was listed at No. 49 in the organization’s sixth annual report that was compiled utilizing data from FBI crime statistics and U.S. Census population data. The only other Fort Bend County municipality listed in the report is Fulshear, which was ranked No. 1. Other benchmark communities highlighted in the report are: West University Place, which ranked No. 8, Memorial Villages, which ranked No. 9, and Friendswood, which ranked No. 24. The ALARMS.ORG and SafeWise public safety accolades are a result of the Missouri City Police Department’s community partnerships, prevention initiatives and Data-Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety program (DDACTS) that have helped to reduce crime to record lows citywide in recent years.
“The City’s Police Department follows innovative structures on how to properly keep our residents safe and our recognition on these lists acknowledges our standards,” said Interim City Manager Bill Atkinson. “We are very supportive of our first responders, and are proud of them for keeping our City safe each and every day.”
The Department’s successes were recognized earlier this year at the Monday, Feb. 17 Regular City Council Meeting when Mayor Yolanda Ford, City Councilmembers, Police Chief Mike Berezin and staff saluted Officers Leonard Scott and Valery Elias for being selected as Officers of the Month in January for performing life-saving CPR on a vehicle crash victim. “Our officers do an outstanding job day in and day out,” Chief Berezin said. “Officers Scott and Elias exemplify that excellence and they were quite heroic in the situation on Sunday, January 25th. They set the bar high, are the first two officers to be recognized in our department’s new officer of the month program and are deserving of the City’s life-saving award.”
Chief Berezin also recently saluted another of one Missouri City’s finest—Capt. Dwayne Williams who graduated last month from the 279th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. Williams’ class was 10-weeks long and consisted of 255 law-enforcement officers from 49 states, the District of Columbia, 32 countries, five military organizations and eight federal civilian organizations. Participants in the international Academy must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend.
“We are extremely proud of Captain Williams and his commitment to public safety and public service,” Chief Berezin said. “Graduating the FBI Academy is one of his many stellar accomplishments and we are fortunate to have him in service for our community.”
