Two Rio Grande Valley cities are among the four entities to receive an allocation from a $5.2 million distribution approved by the Texas Water Development Board.
The City of Weslaco in Hidalgo County will spend $3 million for the design and construction of major drainage improvements while the City of Harlingen in Cameron County will use $1.34 million for storm sewer system upgrades and implementation of stormwater pollution prevention plan measures, a press release issued by the TWDB said.
Other recipients are the City of Marble Falls in Llano County and Llano County itself.
The funding is culled from the Flood Infrastructure Fund, which was approved by the 86th Texas Legislature and further placed on the books by a voter approved constitutional amendment in 2019.
The four recipients were deemed eligible under the federal award matching fund category of the 2020 Flood Intended Use Plan.
